I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday weekend! I will be accepting pre-orders for chilled goods until Friday (April 13th) - if you have questions about product availablity, please contact me Tuesday or Wednesday of this week via e-mail or stopping by! I will be unavailable from Thursday, April 12th through the following Thursday, April 19th. The shop WILL be open, but the man behind the curtain, err I mean counter, will not be able to answer all inquiries.

Have a great week, keep smiling and I will see you upon my return!

April 3, 2012

Opening Times for the next week:

April 2nd - 5th (Mo-Th): 11am - 7pm

April 6th (Fr): CLOSED

April 7th (Sa): 11am - 4pm

April 8th - 9th (Su-Mo): CLOSED

Make sure you get to the shop in time for yummy Easter goodies! Happy Easter everyone!

March24, 2012

This past week brought a delivery from my British distributor - mostly a re-stock, but with a few new items. There are some nice cakes in the regrigerator, as well as a change in cheeses (no worries, I still have the important cheddars!). I have a number of new Clipper and Pukka teas, but did not neglect to change up the Twinings offerings a bit. Blue tortilla chips are back, as are Walker's Crisps (even a fun variety pack!), Colman's Mustard and Tunnock's Tea Cakes.

Easter is quickly approaching, don't forget to stop by and pick up some yummies to fill the baskets with! Have a great weekend and enjoy this fab weather :-)

March 12, 2012

I have the long-awaited update! (Sorry it took so long, but I am still dealing with the sticky bureaucratic side of this.) The American order arrived last Wednesday (March 7th) and brought a number of new items, as well as some restock and, unfortunately, also some damaged goods. To whet your appetites for the new, here are a few highlights: Reeses Puffs Cereal, Fundamiddles Cupcake mix (with cream filling!) and Jell-o No Bake Cheesecake. As usual there are a few different barbecue sauces and Frank's RedHot has returned, as have Poptarts and Cap'n Crunch, chocolate chips and pancake syrup (maple and Mrs. Butterworth). I also have a few salad dressings, more salsa (though a lot of this was damaged in transport) and lots of new sweets (GIANT bags of Wonka, Coconut m&ms, Rainbow and Chocolate Twizzlers, 5th Avenue, Wonka Chewy Nerds).

The pre-orders for the UK order have ended and I am hoping to have that order here end of next week.

Until then: be kind to each other and come shop! :-)

March 5, 2012

Let's try this again! The shop will be CLOSED this Wednesday (March 7th) when the American delivery is supposed to FINALLY arrive :-D I will re-open on Thursday with most, if not all, of the new arrivals on the shelf! Thank you for your understanding. I will be taking pre-orders for short-date, chilled products (sausages, pasties, Quorn, Haggis and the like) until this Thursday. Please e-mail me at the above address or post on the topic on my Facebook page. Thank you and see you all soon!

February 29, 2012

Please disregard the message from yesterday, the Customs Office in Hamburg has decided to take apart my delivery on Friday (in Hamburg) because of ONE case that they want to inspect. I have NO further information on when I WILL get my delivery, but it will be sometime next week now. To say that I am frustrated would be an understatment. I ask you all for a bit of understanding in that my hands are tied and it is not helpful to have customers get angry at me for a delayed delivery when it is not in my control, but in the German government's control. :-) I will update again when I have another secure date (I was told yesterday that Friday was 100%, so....)

February 28, 2012

Dear Beyond the Pond Patrons: The shop will be CLOSED on Friday March 2nd as the long awaited US delivery will finally be arriving. Thank you for your understanding. I will be open again on Saturday March 3rd during my regular Saturday hours.

I have put out the *death by cuteness* Easter goodies, now. Stop by soon to make sure you get your Cadbury Bunnies and Eggs, as well as other adorable and yummy goodies!

February 16, 2012

An exciting new beer delivery arrived yesterday. What makes it so exciting you ask? I received some great American brews sure to convince nay-sayers that we can create fabulous beer. My current east-coasters are: Victory (Hop-Wallop, Storm King, Golden Monkey Tripel) and Flying Dog (Raging Bitch); and my west-coasters: Sierra Nevada (Pale Ale) and Anchor (Steam Beer and Liberty Ale). I also added a few more beers from Scotland: BrewDog (77 Lager and Hardcore Punk IPA), Fraoch Heather Ale, Ebulum Elderberry, Midnight Sun and Red McGregor. Finally, a few new English greats: St. Peter's (Old-Style Porter, Suffolk Smokey and The Saints Whisky Beer), Fuller's Organic Honey Dew, Old Tom Chocolate.

In other news: I will be receiving a British shipment tomorrow (PLEASE don't come pick through my cases, have some patience and give me a day ;) ) so look for an update on what arrives soon. The large American order will be arriving very soon (next 2 weeks, probably). Watch this space and / or Facebook -- I will be closing on the day of delivery, but will give my faithful customers and readers a head's up around 2 days in advance, as well as putting up signs.

Be well, stay warm, I look forward to seeing you all soon!

January 21, 2012

Here is the promised update on deliveries of the last week! I am again restocked on (almost) all things Reeses -- larger packages to come in late February. I have restocked on a few of the extra hot hot sauces, expect the rest of the shipment this next week.

My large British order arrived yesterday and brought a restock of teas as well as many new additions. Some of the highlights: 4 different Twinings Moment of Calm teas, including some new flavours; Clipper teas -- new green, white and herbals; Clipper and The Grumpy Mule organic and fairtrade coffees; Pukka teas. Henry Goode Liquourice, Cliff Bars (peanut butter flavour) and Montezuma (vegan) dark chocolate bars are (back) in. Lots of my normal brands have also been restocked. Chilled goods are also fully stocked and as of today I still have 2 packages of Lincolnshire Sausages, 2 Cornish Pasties and Black Pudding availble, as well as a great selection of british cheeses (this month's specialty cheese is Double Gloucester with Onion and Chives, mmmm).

More updates to follow in the next few weeks so watch this space :-)

January 20, 2012

Due to a large delivery in bad weather I will be closing today at 6pm (18 Uhr)! I am sorry for the late notice, but ask for your understanding. It will be worth it for the new goods, I promise! :-D Have a great weekend, I will update on the order over the weekend.

December 24, 2011

I received one last delivery for this year yesterday and the refrigerator is full again.

Sausages, 1 lonely package of Haggis,Cornish Pasties (hurry in for all of these!), Cheeeeeese and more!

I also want to take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful holiday season. See you soon!

December 17, 2011

Opening times for the holidays:

12/17: 10am - 5pm

12/19 - 12/23: 11am - 7pm

12/24: 10am - 1pm

12/27-12/30: 11am - 7pm

12/31: 10am - 1pm

Wishing you all a festive season!

December 10, 2011

Just a super quick update on this 3rd Advent weekend: I received a new beer and cider delivery this past week with a number of new and interesting drinks. Where to start? From Brew Dog I received their 5am Saint, Crabbie's now has a stronger version of their already fabulous Ginger Beer: Crabbie's Black. Wychwood has also broadened their range to include a stronger Goblin, King Goblin, and a ginger beer: Ginger Beard -- the label alone is good reason to try this one! I brought back Greene King's Abbot Ale and added their Export IPA to the mix. Bateman's Dark Lord has found space on my shelves, and Fursty Ferret has (finally) returned. To round things out a bit and bring a festive touch to the mix I also have 2 seasonal brews from Shepherd Neame: Rudolph's Reward (only a few bottles left!) and their delicious Christmas Ale with just a touch of spice. Right, who's thirsty?

Just a reminder: if you want to order sausages, haggis (Burn's night is not too far off and this freezes well!) or Quorn please send me an e-mail to pre-order by December 15th! The order will arrive either the last week of December (hopefully!) or the first week of January.

Consider this a last call for wishes for the next American order, as well.

Happy Holidays!

November 25, 2011

Happy belated Thanksgiving to all of my American friends and customers. I hope you all enjoyed the holiday with friends, family, warmth and love.

I spent my Thanksgiving receiving my last pre-Christmas delivery from the UK! I have sent e-mails to those who pre-ordered items -- if you have not received a message, please e-mail me something may have been lost in cyberspace. All of this year's Christmas goodies are out: Puddings, Mince Pies, Chocolate Oranges, Advents Calenders from Cadbury, lots of gorgeous tins filled with biscuits. Christmas cards, wrapping paper, gift tags, and a quickly dwindeling assortment of crackers are also available this year. Well, you will just have to stop by to see what I have.

I have a good assortment of Christmas and winter-themed books and am re-ordering fairly frequently.

Current chilled goods include a nice selection of cheeses, bacon, Quorn Escalopes, Cadbury Cakes and a very few packages of sausages, pork pies, cornish pasties and 2 gammon. Oh, and I have bagels again :-)

Hope you are all staying warm and getting ready for the Winter and upcoming holidays!

October 31, 2011

Another callout for those with yahoo e-mail accounts who requested I order Nando Peri Peri Sauce and reserve Jacob's Heritage Biscuit Selection Tins: I have tried to reach both of you from multiple e-mail accounts and my e-mails have continually bounced back as undeliverable. Please stop by or write me an e-mail at the above address to let me know you got this message!

I am back from my amazing, though much too short, holiday and have managed to get most of the Holiday goodies out and will finish getting things set up by this weekend. I will be re-ordering chilled goods to arrive by the end of November (I am already out of bacon and extra-mature cheddar, the horror!). If you would like to preorder sausages, haggis or gammon, please let me know by November 10th! Remember this will be my last chilled order before Christmas, so if you need things for your festivities get them now and freeze them.

October 14, 2011

The delivery from the UK arrived yesterday with lots of holiday goodies! A very few sweets for Halloween and a lot of yummy goodness for Christmas. I am having difficulty getting e-mails to people with @yahoo.de accounts, so if you asked me to get something and have a yahoo account you may want to stop by and ask :)

Chilled goods: I have sausages -- hurry in to get them -- and Quorn is back, in larger package sizes. A great selection of cheeses and, of course, proper bacon.

I am off tomorrow morning and will catch you all on the flip-side!

October 12, 2011

The American delivery has finally arrived, in a bit of a state (it was the victim of broken molasses jars and plundering along the way :( ). I have managed to get most things on the shelves now!

The next delivery from the UK is due in next week: the refrigerators will finally be restocked and a few new items will be arriving. The Christmas goods are also arriving, but I won't be putting them out just yet.

I am leaving Saturday (Oct. 15th) for a short, well-earned holiday so please show some patience with my *staff* (who is my husband). I will return end of the month hopefully well rested and ready for the holiday season!

October 8, 2011

My long-promised, not positive update on the American shipment that was supposed to be in the shop no later than yesterday: it appears to be lost at the moment :( A delivery driver knocked on my door this morning with 2 pallets, but they were NOT the right pallets. Please be patient, I know some of you are waiting on certain products, but it is impossible to receive clarification on the whereabouts on the weekend. My contact in Hamburg is making this his first order of business on Monday morning. As soon as I know more, I will update, but ask for some patience as the situation is completely beyond my control and incredibly frustrating for me.

October 6,2011

New beer and cider! I received a small shipment today of alcohol from the UK. Old friends have returned (Innis and Gunn Rum Cask, to name one) and a few new friends have been acquired: Innis and Gunn Original Oak Aged Beer, Bulmer's No. 17 Cider (with crushed berries), Boddington Draught and 2 from the Scottish BrewDog craft brewers: Trashy Blonde and Punk IPA.

Stay tuned, there will be a large American Shipment update VERY soon!

August 29, 2011

I hope no one feels neglected! I have been busy putting orders together and dealing with a few other bits. The important thing: I received a shipment from the UK last week with a few old favourite restocks and a few new products. The highlights: a few boxes of Alpen Muesli, pickled onions, Daddies Brown Sauce, Toffepops biscuits and Fox's Viennese Melts, a few new cheeses and big packages of Twinings Earl Grey and English Breakfast (VERY limited quantities -- test phase ;) ). I am also re-stocked on Irn Bru, Doritos, chocolate and most other items that were sold out. I even have Ginger Nuts back in! A few new beers have also appeared: Moosehead Pale Ale (Canada), Black Sheep Golden Sheep, Abbot Ale, Innis and Gunn, John Smith Extra Smooth, Sweetheart Stout...

A note on orders in the Fall: I normally receive shipment at the end of one month / beginning of the following month. My next order will, however, not arrive until mid October as I need to free up all of the delicious Christmas and Holiday goodies I have ordered for you :D Please still place your pre-orders / wishes by September 15th so I can get my order locked in and placed before October 1st. I will be on holiday the 2nd half of October, but the shop WILL still be open in my absence. After October, the next order will arrive the first part of December.

Finally, I am doing weekend or weekly sale items, so be sure to pop into the shop or check my Facebook page (link further down the page) so you don't miss something great ;)

Jiggity Jig!

August 14, 2011

REMINDER: I need to receive any and all pre-orders for both my next chilled order (sausages, pasties, etc.) and for the chilled holiday goods (see post under this one) by the evening of Monday, August 15th. Pre-orders that arrive after that may not be able to be worked in. Thank you for understanding :D

If you are interested in any of these products, please send me an e-mail to the shop address in the header! This order will hopefully arrive on July 1st.

In other news... I received a 3 ton order from the US this past week and am now restocked on all of your favorite goodies (Lucky Charms, Poptarts, Ranch Dressing, Grits, Mac 'n Cheese, Tex-Mex and and and). Easter Holiday Hours:

Friday April 22nd: CLOSED

Saturday April 23rd: 10am - 2pm

Sunday April 24th: CLOSED

Monday April 25th: CLOSED

Wishing everyone a beautiful holiday weekend! I still have some lovely Easter goodies available!

In other news: My British delivery will be a bit delayed because of all of the holidays in the UK in the next few weeks. Instead of arriving next week, it will arrive Monday/Tuesday of the following week (May 2nd / 3rd). At that time I will again have limited numbers of sausages and Quorn so come in quickly for those items. I will take pre-orders for the end May / beginning June chilled goods order until May 14th.

April 7, 2011

A new order arrived recently!

What did I get? Bacon, several new Quorn products (some of which unfortunately arrived very short before BB dates -- hurry in for a great deal!), delicious Gü brownies and Frü carrot cake slices, Spaghetti Cheese (this stuff is funny!), clotted cream and lots and lots of new yummy cheeses. One of my new favourite cheeses is Seriously Strong Cheddar, mmmmm -- I can't wait to try the Double Gloucester with onion, the Wensleydale Pineapple... Don't miss the fresh delivery of Humous, Tabouli and Guacamole.

If you are interested in pre-ordering sausages or fresh Haggis, please let me know by April 14th for the next chilled order.

I will also be placing my next American order in the next few days in hopes it arrives before the 4th of July ;)

Happy Spring, enjoy the sunshine!

March 5, 2011

You asked for it

I fought for it

And now it is HERE!

Quorn Products from the UK -- unavailable until now in Germany :) Come quickly if you want some!

The Easter Bunny has also arrived in the shop after a stop in the UK to bring us delicious treats from Cadbury, Divine, Green & Black and more.

Other new additions include: Home Pride sauces, Frey Bentos (have returned) and lots for my new FRIDGES! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, you read that correctly! I now how a selection of cheeses, bacon, (a few) sausages, clotted cream, double cream and some sweets. This was only my first order so I was a bit conservative with amounts ordered. Let me know what your wishes are and I will be less conservative next time ;)

February 19, 2011

PLEASE NOTE: I am open at the moment, but if things change at all and start moving towards the Neustadt I will close early. If you need to get something, come early ;D I also got a new delivery last week from the US. Poptarts, cereals, baking mixes and supplies are all restocked! More exciting news coming soon. Stay safe this weekend!

November 21, 2010: Christmas Goodies from the UK and an American Shipment!

I have my Christmas goodies out now: Christmas pudding (limited numbers available!), small plum puddings, mince pies (limited numbers available!), chocolates, fudge, mulling spices, advents calenders (only a few from Cadbury left, but a number of Fair Trade Divine calenders), fabulous biscuits for cheese, other snackables and much more! For those who prefer to do their own baking, I also have jars of mince, packets of chopped fruit, etc. to make sure the holiday baking goes smoothly. Beer and Cider are also re-stocked: Wychwood Ales (Hobgoblin bottles are currently sold out but should be re-stocked by mid-December - cans still available), Landlord, Black Sheep, Newcastle, Fursty Ferret, Carling, Guinness Draught, Strongbow, Bulmers, Magners, Kopparberg. I even have a few bottles of Green Ginger Wine and Crabbies Ginger Beer (with alcohol). Perfect for parties.

In other news: I will be receiving a new British delivery this coming week -- filling in sold-out products, but also some new teas, more Fentiman's and crisps. I hope to receive the goods by Wednesday or Thursday so pop by and have a look.

What many have been waiting for: my American goods have *finally* arrived after a bit of an odyssey. I am again fully stocked with baking mixes and frostings, pie crusts, poptarts, cereals, cranberry juice, Daily's Margarita Mix, peanut butter, barbecue sauce, marshmallows, mexican food ingredients, baking ingredients and much more. I also now carry American drinks: Dr. Pepper, A&W Root Beer, Mt. Dew, Diet Mt. Dew and am looking forward to my first (small) order of Arizona Ice Tea that should arrive by Wednesday of this coming week. A bit of a let-down with the order: a few products were either not available for delivery (Canadian maple syrup, Cheez-Its, Fig Newtons, Post Raisin Bran) or mysteriously disappeared after the Customs fiasco (Oreos and Chips Ahoy -- someone likes cookies!). I will continue to order these products in hopes that they will make it to the shop sometime in the future.

On the book front: I receive new shipments ever 1-2 weeks so there are always new books available. I have a number of classic and new Christmas books out now, a few will be arriving beginning of this coming week. I have a nice selection of Children and Youth literature, Cook Books, a few classics and best sellers and atypical novels (Murakami, Achebe, Robbins, Kesey) for those of you who have not made it into my shop, yet. I am also happy to place special orders with my fantastic book distributor (once I place an order, the books arrive within 2-3 days!).

A huge *Thank You* to all who have made my first 4 months in business successful!

October 18, 2010: A shipment from the UK arrived!

Last week I received a new shipment with products that were out of stock (Walker's Crisps, Cadbury Chocolates, Bundaberg Ginger Beer, different biscuits, etc.). I also received a number of new products like Fentimen's Rose Lemonade and Tonic, Piccalilli Pickle, Jam Teacakes, Bisto Best Gravy Granules, New Zealand Honey, Ginger Cake, Fruit Winders, new Baxter soups, and many others. My Christmas selection also arrived, but I am hiding those lovelies away in the cellar storeroom for a bit -- October is simply too early for Christmas goods, if you ask me... I will be receiving some new shelving at the beginning of November and once I have those settled into place I will look at slowly filling them. Expect to see the Christmas goodies near mid-November: Christmas puddings, mince pies, fudge, toffee, Cadbury Advent Calenders, stuffing mixes, mulling spices, Terry's Chocolate Oranges, Christmas books, books on holiday cookery, and oh so much more! In November I will be receiving an order from the US, as well. Mostly items that have sold out, but a few new things as well. I will update both here and on my Facebook Shop page when the delivery has arrived. Exciting times are ahead, stop by and see what is new!

July 6, 2010

Welcome to the information pages for Beyond the Pond British & American Shop in Dresden.

I am currently busy getting everything ready for our Grand Opening that is planned for July 24th! I hope to have a lot of new and old friends stop by, say hello and browse the selection I have put together for you.

The shop will be open (on and after the Grand Opening):
Monday-Friday 11am - 7 pm
Saturday 11 am - 4 pm

The shop is located at Rothenburger Str. 26 in the Neustadt and is easily accessible with public transportation and by car. There are parking spots along Rothenburger Str. (don't forget to grab a ticket, they control frequently!). Tram 13 stops just a block away from the shop at "Nordbad" and the trams 6 and 11 stop a long block off up at the crossing "Rothenburgerstr. / Bautzener Str.". Even the trams 7,8 and 3 are not far off at Albertplatz (less than 10 minutes walk).

What will I offer?

American Foods: British Foods: Books:

I have put together a starter selection of books in English, with a focus on children's and youth literature - there are board books, early readers, activity books, chapter books, all carefully selected from experience and on recommendation. To round out this offer, I will also carry some classics and best sellers and have started a section of cookbooks. The books are in the back in a cozy corner with comfy chairs for sitting and browsing books.

I hope to be able to offer used books in the future. Once things have settled down, I will post conditions for sellers.

Other Goods: I will have a corner with a large pin board where I encourage you to look for tandem language partners, babysitters, knitting circles, play groups, ladies dinners, whatever you like as long as it is family friendly.

In the first months after opening I will have *wish lists* for all of my ranges available - please let me know what you would like me to keep in my selection and what you would like to see in the future. I will be ordering from the US every few months, a bit more frequently from my British supplier and as often as needed from my book supplier. Help me make this shop your home away from home.
